Pastoral leadership

Senior Pastor

A native of Honolulu and graduate of Hawaii Baptist Academy, Pastor Stephen Kaneshiro completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Hawaii before pursuing his theological studies at the Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Following his graduation from seminary he pastored churches on Maui and became one of the founding pastors of Valley Isle Fellowship (VIF) in 2000. He served as Associate Pastor until 2004 when he moved to Hilo to establish and lead the In Christ Alone House Church Ministries. Pastor Stephen was asked to serve as the interim pastor of VIF during the summer of 2011. Shortly after fulfilling this commitment and returning to Hilo, he was invited to return and serve as the churchʻs Senior Pastor. He accepted and began serving in November of that year. His vision is for every member of VIF to become more “Christ-like so that united we will impact Maui County for Jesus Christ.” In April of 2017 part of this vision became a reality when the church moved into their new facility in what is now the Waiale Elua subdivision and is referred to by the Waikapu community as “the church on the hill”. Pastor Stephen also serves as a Volunteer Police Chaplain with the Maui Police Department.

PASTORʻS PLANNED TRANSITION

Pastor Stephen announced on March 21, 2021 that he would be retiring and has set a conditional retirement date of January 15, 2022.  He has asked the church leadership to select a Pastor Search Committee to find a new pastor according to the churchʻs by-laws. We thank God for Pastor Stephenʻs 14-plus years of ministry here at VIF and for helping us prepare for this important transition in the life of our church.

Our Pastor Search Committee has been meeting for training and prayer to prepare them for this momentous task.  The congregation has been surveyed to provide input on the future and vision of the church.  Valley Isle Fellowship is now accepting applications for the position of Senior Pastor.

Applications will be accepted through October 13, 2021.
